Fields Memorial School is a proud participant in the Math Challenge program.
Math Challenge gives students opportunities to sharpen mathematical problem-solving skills. Throughout the challenges, the program covers problem solving strategies such as: draw a picture or model, make an organized list, look for a pattern, work backward, guess and check, and many more.
This is an optional activity for families to explore math together and have discussions about math. Please note this is a nationwide program and we do not create the problems. They are based on the Common Core Standards and Standards for Mathematical Practice expected for your child’s grade level.
Please keep in mind, since these problems encompass Grades K-8, the guidelines for completion are different at each grade band and are noted at the top of each challenge.
This year’s school theme for our “Mathletes” is Building Our Mathematical Thinking One Challenge at a Time. The display is construction themed and each time a student completes a challenge, a piece of a house will be added with the hopes of a complete home by year’s end! Additionally, prizes are on a tiered level based on the total number of completed challenges and will be awarded according to the chart on the second page.
